Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule says pressure from his parents is one of the reasons he is considering contesting for the Nasarawa North Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general election.
Governor Sule spoke during an interview on Channels Television programme on Monday, where he addressed questions about his political future after his tenure as governor.
He said the calls from his parents and people from his senatorial district influenced his decision to reconsider the move.
“The pressure from parents, supporters and people that have worked with me is such that I can reconsider,” he said.
He said he has kept to his promises since becoming governor.
“Every time I said I was going to do something, I did it,” he said.
Sule said his decision is not based on the actions of past governors who moved to the Senate after their tenure.
He said he does not need the senatorial seat.
“Before I became a governor, I was relevant in this country,” he said.
He said he had served as managing director of African Petroleum and worked in the capital market.
He also said he led Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc.
Sule said he is chairman of the North-Central Governors’ Forum.
He added that Nasarawa State will host a zonal congress in Lafia.
The governor said he does not know who will succeed him but added that there are people qualified to contest the governorship.
