The office of the federal minister of power, Adebayo Adelabu, has denied reports that he has resigned his appointment from the Federal Executive Council.
Bolaji Tunji, the minister’s special adviser on strategic communications and media relations, described a letter circulating online announcing Adelabu’s resignation as not genuine.
“He has not resigned. That letter of resignation did not come from his office,” Tunji said, dismissing the document as fabricated and untrue.
On whether Adelabu would resign to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship race, the aide said: “When the time comes, everything will be revealed.”
The purported letter, which was widely shared on social media on Tuesday, was said to have been addressed to the secretary to the government of the federation and stated that Adelabu was stepping down to focus on his governorship ambition.
President Bola Tinubu had on March 17 directed all political appointees who intend to contest elective offices in the 2027 general elections to resign by March 31. The directive was meant to ensure compliance with the Electoral Act and to create a level playing field for aspirants.
Adelabu’s name has been linked with interest in the Oyo State governorship for some time. In June 2025 he met party stakeholders in the state to declare his intention to contest the election. He previously served as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the 2019 governorship race and later under the Accord Party in 2023 before returning to the APC after his ministerial appointment.
