Singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been released from police detention after spending about a week in custody in Ogun State.

He regained his freedom on Monday following his arraignment before a court in Ota.

Portable was arraigned on January 12 on a nine‑count charge including assault, theft, causing harm and resisting arrest.

The case stems from an incident on New Year’s Day at Portable’s Odogwu Bar in Iyana Ilogbo. Prosecutors allege he attacked several people, including his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, police officers, and others.

He is also accused of stealing a Mercedes‑Benz E300 valued at about N12 million.

At the first hearing, the court denied him bail because the police officer allegedly assaulted was not present. The judge said the officer’s presence was necessary before ruling on bail and remanded Portable in custody.

A video circulated online showed Portable surrounded by associates, joking that his new name is “Innocenty.”

Portable’s manager, Baby Luv, posted a photograph on Instagram of him with his first wife, Bewaji, thanking her for support. She wrote, “All glory to God. Grace spoke, mercy prevailed. #Freedom. She stayed when it was hardest. God honoured her faith #Thankful.”

Earlier in January, the Ogun State Police Command ordered an internal probe after a video appeared showing Portable being physically assaulted in custody.

This is not Portable’s first time in police custody. Since 2022, he has been arrested and arraigned in states including Kwara, Ogun and Lagos.

The court case against him will continue, with the next bail hearing to be scheduled.
