The Nigeria Police Force has signalled its intention to investigate the circumstances surrounding influencer King Mitchy after she was seen in two separate live videos attempting to ingest harmful substances.
The matter was brought to the attention of the authorities by Muyiwa Adejobi, a former police spokesperson, who tagged the current spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin and the force’s official X account in a post that included footage of the latest incident.
King Mitchy’s distress followed a public dispute with social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan. Both had been engaged in a prolonged exchange online over claims about the authenticity of their philanthropic activities.
The dispute escalated during a live broadcast in which Mitchy was seen consuming a substance believed to be hypo, a household bleach product, while crying as viewers expressed concern in the comment section.
Her management later announced that she had died after ingesting the chemical but subsequently withdrew the statement, saying she was alive and receiving care.
In another live video that surfaced afterwards, Mitchy was again seen ingesting a substance identified as sniper, a pesticide, in what appeared to be an attempt to end her life.
Benjamin Hundeyin has not issued a detailed statement on the matter as of press time. However, police involvement suggests that authorities may examine the circumstances surrounding the incidents, including the content of the live broadcasts and any related complaints.
