The Lagos State Police Command has begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the hospitalisation of skit maker Samuel Perry, known as Broda Shaggi, after he sustained a gunshot injury while filming a skit.
Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi said the command was alerted after a hospital reported that a gunshot victim had been brought to its facility.
“The hospital contacted the police to report that a gunshot victim had been brought to their facility. Detectives and a patrol team were sent to the hospital, where they discovered that the victim was a skit maker known as Broda Shaggi,” she said.
According to the police, the entertainer was on a stretcher with an injury to his thigh.
He was first taken to Blooming Care Hospital for first aid and later referred to Duchess Hospital for further treatment, where he is currently recovering.
The police said the incident reportedly occurred under the Sango-Ota bridge in Ogun State during a skit recording session with members of his crew.
The circumstances leading to the shooting are still unclear.
Spokesperson Adebisi added that the location of the incident is outside the Lagos command’s jurisdiction but that officers are coordinating with authorities in Ogun State to determine how the injury occurred.
Spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command Omolola Odutola said the case has not been formally reported to the command.
“The incident was alleged to have occurred in Ogun State, but it was not reported,” she said.
Authorities continue to probe the circumstances of the shooting and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward to assist with the investigation.
