The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, over unruly behaviour that obstructed the safe operation of an aircraft at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Force public relations officer DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said in a statement on Tuesday that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had petitioned the police over the incident, which violated the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, 2023.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 5, while the musician was attempting to board a ValueJet flight to Lagos.

Trouble began when K1 carried a flask suspected to contain alcohol, a prohibited substance on domestic flights in Nigeria.

When aviation staff requested that he surrender the flask, he allegedly refused and went on to block the aircraft from taxiing.

Following the petition, inspector general of police Kayode Egbetokun directed the commissioner of police, airport command, to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances and ensure justice is served.

The NCAA has since suspended the licences of the aircraft’s captain, Oluranti Ogoyi and first officer, Ivan Iloba.

K1 was also placed on a no-fly list across all Nigerian carriers for six months pending investigation.

The 68-year-old later apologised, stating it was never his intention to violate aviation protocols or cause inconvenience.

The call for his investigation intensified after an Ibom Air passenger, Comfort Emmanson, was recently remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for assaulting flight crew and security personnel on a Uyo–Lagos flight.

She attempted to use a fire extinguisher as a weapon and resisted disembarkation, prompting the pilot to call in security.

Airport security and Ibom Air staff eventually dragged her off the plane, during which her crop shirt was torn, leaving her partially nude.

The Airline Operators of Nigeria has since announced a lifetime ban on Emmanson, describing the incident as one of the most severe cases of unruly passenger behaviour this year.
