Police file cyberbullying charges against activist Just Adetoun

Ogun State Police Command has filed a six-count charge against activist Adetoun Onajobi, also known as Just Adetoun, over allegations of cyberbullying Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The charges were filed at the Federal High Court in Abeokuta.

In a statement on Monday, the police spokesperson in Ogun State, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said Just Adetoun published allegations against the governor through social media platforms, which prompted a petition and police investigation.

Babaseyi said the activist was invited for an interview on January 2, but did not honour the invitation, informing the police through her lawyer that she was medically indisposed.

According to the police, a medical report submitted to support her claim was later found to be fabricated.

The police said the doctor who issued the report admitted that it was prepared at the request of Just Adetoun during a phone conversation involving her lawyer.

The police spokesperson said the doctor has been arraigned on charges of conspiracy, uttering a false document and obstruction of justice.

“The command will exhaust all legal means to ensure that the suspect appears before the court,” Babaseyi said.

Separately, the Ogun State Government confirmed that the police had filed charges against the activist following a petition by the state.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade, said the matter followed social media videos released by Just Adetoun after Nigerian-born boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a road accident in Ogun State in December 2025.

Mr Ogungbade said the activist alleged that the state had no ambulance services and accused Governor Abiodun of neglecting public welfare.

The state government said the claims led to a petition to the police for alleged violations of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015.

According to the statement, Just Adetoun was asked to report to the police on January 5 but failed to appear.

The government said she later released another video claiming ill health, while a medical report submitted by her lawyer was later discredited.

The Attorney General said the doctor who issued the report had been arrested, charged and remanded, while Just Adetoun had not appeared before the court.

The police said investigations into the case are ongoing.
