The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a viral “Wanted” poster of actress Iyabo Ojo circulating on social media, describing it as fake and misleading.
In a statement on Thursday, the police said:
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to clarify that the recent Wanted Person Bulletin circulating about stating that the Nollywood Actress, Iyabo Ojo is wanted by the Office of The IGP Monitoring Unit is NOT an official communication from the Force.
The Nigeria Police Force urges members of the public to verify information through official channels and be cautious of misinformation.”
The Force further warned against spreading unverified content, posting on its official Facebook page:
“FAKE NEWS ALERT! This ‘WANTED’ poster of actress Iyabo Ojo did not emanate from the Nigeria Police Force. It is false, misleading & was never posted on any official NPF platform. Disregard & stop spreading fake news. Verify only from official NPF channels.”
The viral poster had claimed that a reward was being offered for information on Iyabo’s whereabouts.
The 47-year-old has been in the news lately over her social media clashes with content creator Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, who accused her and other celebrities of attempting to implicate singer Naira Marley in the death of Mohbad.
The actress began acting in 1998 and has featured in over 150 films. She is also a producer and director, with her latest work Labake Olododo released earlier this year.
