Osun State Police Command has dismissed a viral social media video claiming that bandits were preparing to attack Ilesa, stating that the content was false and aimed at creating fear among residents.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Osogbo, the spokesperson for the command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the footage was artificially generated to incite panic.

He said, “The attention of the Police Command has been drawn to a viral AI-generated video circulating on social media, falsely claiming that bandits are advancing towards Ilesa, Osun State. This allegation is baseless, misleading, and deliberately designed to instil fear, cause panic, and disrupt public peace.”

DSP Ojelabi cautioned against the use of artificial intelligence tools to spread misinformation and warned members of the public not to create or share unverified content that could affect peace in the state.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, had deployed covert and overt operatives to the Ilesa axis and other locations across the state to strengthen security.

He urged residents to remain calm and report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station.

Ojelabi said the Osun State Police Command remained committed to safeguarding lives and property.
