Police deny report alleging IGP Egbetokun added names to academy admission list

IGP Kayode Egbetokun

The Nigeria Police Force has denied a report claiming that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun inserted names from the National Assembly into the Nigeria Police Academy admission list.

Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin said in a statement that the report published by an online medium on Monday was false and aimed at misleading Nigerians.

“The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to a false, malicious, and defamatory report published by an online medium on 10 November 2025, alleging that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, ‘smuggled names’ into the Nigeria Police Academy admission list.

“This report is a barefaced lie, a product of irresponsible and unethical journalism, and a calculated attempt to mislead Nigerians and malign the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force and its leadership.

Officer Hundeyin said 10 candidates were selected based on merit from each state and the Federal Capital Territory, bringing the total number to 370.

He added that no state received extra slots.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the admission process into the Nigeria Police Academy remains transparent, merit-based, and strictly guided by due process,” the statement said.

Hundeyin explained that while leaders or institutions may recommend candidates, such recommendations do not influence the final list.

He maintained that under the leadership of IGP Egbetokun, no name was smuggled, no slot sold and no standard compromised.

The Force challenged the online platform to produce any name on the list that did not meet the required criteria and warned against spreading false information.

It also said it would seek legal action if the medium continued to publish such reports.

The statement urged the public to disregard the publication, adding that the Police Force remains committed to transparency and accountability.
