The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the death of singer Afeez Adeshina, popularly known as Destiny Boy.
The command confirmed on Monday that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for further investigation.
Police spokesperson Babaseyi Oluseyi said in a statement: “The Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing.”
News of Destiny Boy’s death emerged on Sunday after videos showing his body being taken to a mortuary circulated on social media.
An associate of the late singer later shared a video stating that Destiny Boy had been dealing with a health issue before his death. In the video, he said: “God, I want to do this video before people start saying rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death. Destiny was nursing a health issue in his body before he died. We tried for him, but he didn’t make it.”
Destiny Boy began his music career in Agege, Lagos State, where he worked as a backup dancer for Fuji musician Pasuma before gaining wider attention. He rose to prominence in 2019 after releasing a Fuji style cover of Davido’s song If, which brought him into the spotlight. He later released several other songs and covers.
In November 2024, the singer welcomed his first child with his partner, Iremide.
Police authorities have not disclosed details about the suspect or the circumstances surrounding the death, saying investigations are ongoing.
