A 34-year-old man, Abiola Abdulakeem, was on Friday arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Badagry over alleged fraud and impersonation.
Abdulakeem, whose address was not given, is being charged with felony, fraud, stealing and impersonation, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between January 22 and April 5 at Apa-Owode Road, Badagry, Lagos.
Adeosun said that the defendant conspired with others now at large to obtain the sum of N78,000 from the complainant, Mrs. Toluwani Agbo.
He said that Abdulakeem paraded himself as a member of the Nigeria Armed Forces and defrauded members of the public.
The prosecutor further said that the defendant was apprehended by members of the public and handed over to the police.
Adeosun said that the offences contravened Sections 412, 314, 287 and 79 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015.
The chief magistrate, Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that one of the sureties must be a community leader and adjourned the case until April 28 for mention.
