Police announce burial arrangements for ex-IGP Solomon Arase

Nigeria Police Force has announced the final burial programme for former Inspector-General of Police Solomon Arase, who died on Sunday, August 31, at the age of 68.

According to a statement on Wednesday by the force public relations officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the events will begin in Abuja on September 24 with a Day of Tribute at the Police Resource Centre, Jabi.

A requiem mass will be held on September 26 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, followed by a lying-in-state on September 27 at his Abuja residence before the body is flown to Benin City, Edo State.

In Sabongida-Ora, his hometown, a candlelight procession will take place on September 29.

On October 2, the Edo State judiciary and the Nigerian Bar Association will hold a valedictory session at the High Court in Benin City.

The same day, there will be a service of songs at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road and a family lying-in-state.

The funeral mass is scheduled for October 3 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, after which Arase will be interred at his private residence in Benin City.

A reception will follow at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub.

A thanksgiving mass will be held on October 5.

Solomon Arase, who was Nigeria’s 18th indigenous Inspector-General of Police, was appointed in April 2015 by then-President Goodluck Jonathan and retired in June 2016.
