National chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Professor Nentawe Yilwatda has hailed President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Plateau State, saying Plateau must never bleed again following recent killings in the state.
President Tinubu visited the state on Thursday to commiserate with the government and people over the killings of residents of Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area.
Yilwatda described the attack as “inhuman, cowardly, reprehensible, and a direct assault on the peace, unity, and soul of Plateau State,” Yilwatda said.
He said the continued loss of lives in Plateau is unacceptable and should not be treated with routine reactions.
According to him, there is a need for coordinated efforts by authorities and stakeholders to prevent further attacks and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Yilwatda urged community leaders to be vigilant and report suspicious movements, noting that those behind the attacks may be operating within or around affected communities.
He said perpetrators must not be shielded by silence or fear but should be identified and prosecuted in line with the law.
The APC chairman also called on security agencies to review their strategies and adopt improved methods to address the violence.
He advocated the use of modern surveillance and intelligence tools, including Artificial Intelligence powered systems, drones and real time monitoring, to detect and stop threats.
Yilwatda warned that recurring violence could affect the state’s economy, noting that insecurity discourages investment and limits development.
He said Plateau’s tourism and agricultural potential could be undermined if the security situation persists.
He called for cooperation among traditional rulers, religious leaders, political actors and community groups to restore peace.
During the visit, Tinubu met with Governor Caleb Mutfwang, political leaders, traditional rulers and other stakeholders.
The President also visited families of victims of the Angwan Rukuba attack, offering condolences and assurances of support.
The APC said the visit shows the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing the security situation in Plateau and supporting affected communities.
