Reality TV star Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has confirmed the death of her younger sister, Ruth Otabor.

Phyna shared a letter from Eko Solicitors & Advocates on Instagram on Sunday announcing the tragedy.

The statement signed by Justice Segun Ojienoh read in part:
“With a heavy heart the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025 at about 06:30hrs. The family is presently grieving and will appreciate to be given a private moment to mourn the departed.”

Funeral arrangements will be made public in due course, the family added.

Ruth was involved in a ghastly accident on August 13 reportedly caused by a Dangote truck. She battled for her life in hospital before her death on Sunday.

Since the crash, Phyna had used her platform to call out the Dangote Group and relevant authorities, demanding justice and compensation for her sister.

The 28-year-old was also involved in a public spat with activist VeryDarkMan who accused her of focusing on money and neglecting other victims of the accident. Phyna fired back, calling him a manipulator and liar.

The online exchanges came amid fears for Phyna’s health after a photo of her on a hospital bed surfaced, prompting fans to send prayers and messages of encouragement.

Condolence messages have continued to pour in for the Otabor family as they grieve their loss.
