Singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has responded to his elder brother and former manager Jude Okoye, declaring that his career as a solo artiste has brought him more financial and personal fulfilment than he ever earned as part of the now-defunct P-square group.
Peter made the statement in a Facebook post on Monday while reacting to a post by Jude, who referred to him and dancehall singer Cynthia Morgan as “broke” individuals who lost everything after parting ways with him.
In his Instagram post, Jude wrote:
“They all have one thing in common: They were big, influential and successful when I was shouldering them with my platform until they got greedy and wanted to eat alone and so left.
They never complained afterwards. Rather they bragged about their ‘new found freedom’ and ‘making it all on their own’. Years down the line they fell off the wagon and became broke and instead of accepting responsibility and accountability for their choices, they are pointing fingers at the same person they left for their ‘freedom’.”
Sharing a screenshot of Jude’s post, Peter hit back:
“Calling me broke or wishing I was broke has been your wish. These are the exact same words you told the EFCC officials. And you ended up getting locked up in prison.
Of course, you have to come up with another narrative. You were shouldering who?
Agbaya, you were employed as a manager, and you got sacked the same as the other 2 managers before you. Period!”
He went on to say his solo career has surpassed what he earned with Psquare:
“I understand this may not sit well with some people, but truth be told, aside from my businesses, what I now earn on my own as a solo artiste today is more than what I used to earn after splitting three ways as PSQUARE plus the so-called manager.
I am talking about both shows and endorsements. It really makes me question what’s the point of sharing with people who stole from you, betrayed you, and still discriminate against your efforts!?
This solo journey has been a blessing more rewarding and profitable, both financially and personally, no doubt.
And it has also brought peace of mind. And if you don’t relate or it doesn’t make sense to you, no worries, it’s not meant to. But I am grateful.”
The singer also made it clear he would no longer keep quiet in the face of attacks.
“I have stopped playing nice and being the matured one while getting disrespected!
I started treating people exactly how they treat me. Respect me, I respect you! Ignore me, I ignore you! Cross me, I cut you off, simple.
Life isn’t about begging people for fair treatment! It’s about matching energy; it is what it is.”
Peter’s outburst comes as Jude Okoye is currently being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following a petition filed by Peter himself. Jude faces allegations of theft and money laundering involving $1,019,762.87, £34,537.59 and N1.38 billion.
The charges, which cover the period between 2016 and 2023, also include unlawful conversion of music royalties and the acquisition of a property worth N850 million suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activity.
Peter, his twin Paul (Rudeboy) and Jude have had a history of family and business fallouts which led to the initial breakup of Psquare in 2017.
