Singers Peter Okoye and Nathaniel Bassey have reacted with sadness to a deadly attack in Jos, Plateau State.
Reports say the incident happened around 8 pm on Sunday at a bar in the Gari Ya Waye area of Jos North Local Government Area. Unidentified armed men reportedly opened fire on people gathered there. At least 12 residents are confirmed dead, while several others were injured. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Peter, who is from Plateau, wrote on X, “My heart is heavy… My prayers are with my people in Jos 🙏🏽💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔” in response to the violence.
Also on X, Nathaniel wrote: “JOS ! You shall not be broken. The forces of evil in our nation shall never prevail. We shall see their end. It is well with you Jos, We see you ! Let there be light !”
Following the attack, the Plateau State Government imposed a 48‑hour curfew on Jos North. The curfew took effect from midnight on Sunday and will run until April 1. Authorities said the measure is aimed at preventing further violence and giving security agencies time to restore order.
State officials condemned the attack as unprovoked.
