The media office of Peter Obi has alleged a plan to prevent him from contesting the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement signed on Monday by spokesperson Ibrahim Umar, the media office said the alleged plan poses a threat to democracy.
It accused President Bola Tinubu and the ruling party of taking steps to deny Mr Obi a platform ahead of the election.
“We strongly alert the nation and the international community to a scheme aimed at denying Obi a platform for the upcoming January 2027 poll,” the statement said.
The media office said the plan started after the 2023 election and involved actions within the Labour Party.
It claimed that efforts to resolve issues in the party were affected by external interference.
The statement also said a ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on party leadership was not followed, adding that lower courts were used in related cases.
According to the media office, Obi left the Labour Party on December 31, 2025, after internal disputes.
It said actions against him continued after he aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The statement referred to political developments in Kano following Peter Obi’s meeting with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
It also alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) took steps affecting the party’s leadership after a court ruling.
The media office said the situation could affect democratic processes and called on stakeholders to act.
“We therefore call on all stakeholders to uphold the values of democracy, ensuring that Peter Obi has the opportunity to present his vision for Nigeria to the electorate,” the statement added.
