Peter Obi urges JAMB to address UTME registration challenges

Former Anambra State governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) 2027 presidential aspirant Peter Obi has urged the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to address difficulties faced by candidates registering for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Mr. Obi spoke on Monday after visiting JAMB’s office in Amawbia, Anambra State, where he observed large numbers of candidates waiting to complete registration.

He said reports from other states indicate similar experiences.

According to him, the situation followed the proscription of several Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres over alleged infractions, which reduced the number of available registration points and increased pressure on state offices.

He said that although JAMB may have reasons for sanctioning centres that violate its rules, measures should be taken to prevent candidates from being affected.

Peter Obi suggested that centres under investigation could be allowed to provide limited services under supervision to reduce congestion.

He also proposed that previously approved centres be temporarily reactivated while new approvals are being processed.

With the registration deadline approaching, he said candidates who travel from distant communities risk missing the examination due to delays at registration centres.

“Students cannot be made to suffer the failings of a system,” he said, calling on JAMB to take steps to ensure that candidates complete their registration without further disruption.
