Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi and former labour minister Chris Ngige were among dignitaries who attended the wedding of Chikamkpa, son of ex-minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi, in Abuja.
Mr Chikamkpa traditionally married his bride Mrs Anita on Saturday at a ceremony that drew political and business figures from across Nigeria.
Other notable guests included former governor of Imo State Emeka Ihedioha, former governor of Sokoto State Aminu Tambuwal and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the 2023 Rivers State governorship election Tonye Cole.
Several serving governors, senators, ministers, traditional rulers and business leaders were also present.
In a post on his X page on Monday, Amaechi shared photos from the event and thanked those who attended.
“It was a beautiful ceremony. I’m thankful to all who showed up to celebrate with us. Proud father, now father-in-law. P/S: my son, Dr. Chikamkpa Amaechi and Anita’s traditional marriage ceremony,” he wrote.
Amaechi was speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2007, governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015 and minister of transportation from 2015 to 2022 under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He resigned from the cabinet in 2022 to contest the APC presidential primaries, where he came second to President Bola Tinubu who polled 316 delegate votes.
