Peller speaks after Lagos crash

TikTok creator Habeeb Hamzat, known as Peller, has spoken publicly after a car crash on the Lekki Epe Expressway in Lagos earlier this month.

In a video, Peller apologised and said his emotions got the better of him while driving.

“Nigerians, I am sorry for everything I did. I let my emotions get over me. You can abuse and call me names, but please, I am sorry. I did not do it intentionally.”

Footage from the crash showed Peller distressed moments before his vehicle hit a road barrier. He urged Nigerians not to direct anger at fellow content creator Jarvis, saying the incident had nothing to do with her.

Peller was taken into police custody for questioning. The Lagos State Police described his actions as reckless and dangerous, and investigations are ongoing.

The Federal Road Safety Corps condemned the incident, warning that using a phone or recording content while driving violates traffic laws. The FRSC said it had begun steps to prosecute Peller for distracted and reckless driving.

Authorities reported that the crash occurred after Peller lost control of his car while driving at speed and recording a video. No fatalities were recorded, but the situation could have been deadly.

The FRSC cautioned social media influencers against using public roads for content creation, stressing that traffic laws apply to all.

Reactions on social media have been mixed. Some Nigerians called for legal action to serve as a deterrent, while others urged authorities to balance enforcement with support as investigations continue.
