Paystack has suspended its co-founder and chief technology officer Ezra Olubi over an allegation of sexual misconduct involving a subordinate.

The Stripe-owned company said in a statement that Mr Olubi was suspended with immediate effect and that a formal internal investigation had begun.

“Paystack is aware of the allegations involving our co-founder, Ezra Olubi. Effective immediately, Ezra has been suspended from all duties and responsibilities pending the outcome of a formal investigation,” the company said.

The development followed the circulation of decade-old tweets attributed to Olubi.

The posts, dated between 2009 and 2013, contained sexual comments about coworkers and references to minors.

One tweet from 2011 read, “Monday will be more fun with an ‘a’ in it. Touch a coworker today. Inappropriately.”

Another tweet referenced wanting to photograph a coworker’s thighs.

The tweets resurfaced after a Nigerian tech publication published a compilation earlier in the week.

Social media users also shared screenshots, leading to wider scrutiny.

Olubi has since deactivated his X account.

Paystack said it would not comment further until the investigation is concluded.

Ezra Olubi co-founded the company in 2015 with chief executive officer Shola Akinlade.

The firm was acquired by Stripe in 2020 in a deal valued at over $200 million.
