Founder of House on the Rock Church, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, has addressed viral reports suggesting he brandished a firearm at a content creator who filmed his car.
A video that surfaced online on Friday showed the content creator expressing surprise upon discovering that the occupant of a black Range Rover he had been filming was Adefarasin.
The pastor, seated in the SUV, rolled down the tinted glass and appeared to be holding an object resembling a pistol in his right hand.
He also muttered some inaudible words that led the visibly shaken content creator to apologise repeatedly.
“Boss, boss, sorry sir, sorry sir,” the car spotter said in the video as Adefarasin drove off.
The incident sparked debate on social media, with many questioning why the popular Lagos pastor would be carrying a gun in public.
Reacting to the controversy in a statement shared via his social media accounts on Saturday, Adefarasin denied the claims.
“Dear Family,
Trusting that this meets you well, winning and on top of the tests of life.
“You might be aware of a video which has been circulating on social media showing me in what some have misunderstood as brandishing a firearm,” he wrote.
“I want to assure you of this — that, that was certainly not a firearm, and at no point did I point such at anyone.
“We understand the concern that this accusation may have caused, and we will speak briefly to this mischief during the 9:00 am service tomorrow. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Yours truly,
Paul Adefarasin.”
