Actor Patrick Doyle has opened up about his ex-wife Ireti Doyle’s journey in the movie industry.
The 64-year-old, during an TVC interview, was asked about Ireti’s performance and standing in Nollywood.
Rather than giving a detailed critique, Patrick said, “I would like to disappoint you. If I do not have something nice to say about a human being, I would rather not speak… My anointing does not allow me speak ill about anybody, living or dead.”
When pressed on whether Ireti has done well since their separation, he added, “I am happy for her that the Doyle name has opened doors for her and so far, she has not disgraced the Doyle name. She has done pretty well. I am proud of her achievements in the industry. I would like to continue that way.”
The couple ended their 19-year marriage in 2023.
Reflecting on his own career, Doyle has often emphasised that his relevance in Nollywood predates modern fame. In a June interview, he noted, “I have been popular since I was 16. How long has she been around? I have been around for 45 years and I’m still around. I was a superstar at the age of 16; a champion debater. I debated against Yemi Osinbajo.”
He was widely recogniSed in the 1990s for his portrayals of pastors and religious figures. This earned him early acclaim, though in recent years he has moved away from stereotypical roles, describing himself primarily as a broadcaster who occasionally acts.
