Actress Patience Umeh has revealed why her colleague Chioma Akpotha rarely accepts kissing and romantic roles in movies.
Speaking on the Where Is The Lie podcast, Patience said Chioma’s strict Catholic upbringing played a huge role in shaping her career choices.
“Chioma Chukwuka was brought up in a very Catholic home. She doesn’t accept kissing or romantic roles in movies. I’m saying this out of experience. She was a legionary. She has been a good girl,” Patience said.
However, the actress’s claim is contradicted by Chioma’s recent performance in the blockbuster Seven Doors, where she was seen in a kissing scene with her co-star Femi Adebayo.
Chioma, born March 12, 1980, in Lagos State, hails from Oraifite in Anambra State. She studied Banking and Finance at Lagos State University before venturing into Nollywood in 2000 with the movie The Apple.
She has since featured in over 350 movies, winning the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2007 for Sins of the Flesh.
At the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), she won Best Lead Actress for Seven Doors.
Chioma is also known for keeping her private life away from the spotlight. She was married but has kept details of her family largely out of public view, choosing instead to focus on her career.
