Pastor Iren’s wife Laju Iren makes cinema debut as Onobiren hits cinemas March 6

Laju Iren, wife of pastor Emmanuel Iren, is set to make her cinema debut as her latest film, Onobiren, opens in theatres on March 6.

The film, whose title means woman in the Itsekiri language, was written and executive-produced by Laju under her banner, Laju Iren Films. It was directed by Odion Iraoya.

Onobiren follows the story of Roli, played by Ruby Akubueze, a young woman from Warri who leaves her riverine community for Lagos in search of a different life. The story centres on her struggle with tradition, expectations and faith as she tries to define her own path.

The cast also includes Patience Ozokwo, Deyemi Okanlawon, Bisola Aiyeola, Norbert Young, Chude Jideonwo and Desmond Bryce.

Speaking about the project, Laju said:
“Onobiren is a film that is so dear to me personally and to all of us at Laju Iren Films. We need more like stories that elevate women, and the men who support them, spotlight Africa positively, and showcase the intersection between life and faith. Shot in Warri and Lagos, this is also our biggest film yet in terms of production; it is fitting that this is our first film in brick-and-mortar cinemas and we cannot wait for the world to see it.”

The movie was shot in Warri and Lagos and marks Laju’s first theatrical release after several faith based and digital productions including Loving Amanda and Last to Marry.
