Pastor Adefarasin granted bail as police recover stun gun in viral video probe

Pastor Paul Adefarasin, founder of House on the Rock Church, has been granted bail by the Lagos State Police Command following his interrogation over a viral video showing him pointing a gun-like object at a road user.

Police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, said the cleric voluntarily turned himself in at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba after being invited.

Hundeyin added that the object recovered during questioning was a “prohibited anti-riot stun gun,” not a firearm. He assured that investigations were ongoing and that “no one is above the law.”

The video, which surfaced last week, showed Pastor Adefarasin stepping out of a black vehicle and pointing the object at a man who was recording him. The incident sparked criticism on social media, with many calling for police action.

In response, Pastor Adefarasin claimed the footage was misleading and described it as “clickbait.” He said he was trying to de-escalate a tense road encounter and did not threaten anyone with a gun.

“I did not point a gun at anyone,” he told his congregation during Sunday service.

“It was not a gun, and the situation was not as painted. People love drama, but we must stay calm and let the truth unfold.”

The police, however, said possession of the stun gun remains a violation of Nigerian law, which prohibits civilians from carrying such devices.

Pastor Adefarasin is known for founding “The Experience,” an annual gospel concert that draws international artists and thousands of worshippers. His ministry, House on the Rock, has branches across Nigeria and abroad.

The police say further updates will be provided once the investigation concludes.
