Former Benue State governor Samuel Ortom has said he will not contest any elective office in the 2027 general elections.
Mr Ortom made this known in a statement issued on Saturday in Makurdi by his media aide, Terver Akase.
The statement followed reports on social media that he was planning to run for the Benue North-West Senatorial seat.
Reacting to the reports, Ortom said, “I have no intention whatsoever to contest any elective office in 2027. I have said this clearly, publicly, and repeatedly.
“I expect that a position stated this plainly would not require translation or creative reinterpretation.”
He said his focus is on supporting democratic values, strengthening the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and offering guidance.
Ortom urged the public to disregard the reports, describing them as false.
