Ooni mourns Adekunle Ojora, commiserates with Lagos and Ojora family

The Ooni of Ife Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II has expressed condolences to the Lagos State Government, the Ojora family and associates of Adekunle Ojora, following his death at the age of 93.

The condolence message was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Ooni’s director of media and public affairs, Moses Olafare.

Mr Ojora, who held the traditional titles of Lisa of Ife and Otunba of Lagos, died on Tuesday.

In the statement, the Ooni said the death of Ojora was a loss to Yorubaland and Nigeria.

He also extended condolences to Toyin Ojora-Saraki, daughter of the deceased and wife of former Senate President Bukola Saraki, as well as other members of the Ojora family.

The Ooni prayed for strength for the family to bear the loss and for the peaceful repose of Ojora’s soul.

He noted that Ojora’s contributions to business, entrepreneurship and traditional service would continue to be remembered.

Adekunle Ojora died at his residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, after a brief illness.

He was born into the Ojora and Adele royal families of Lagos.

Ojora studied journalism at Regent Street Polytechnic in London and worked at the British Broadcasting Corporation before returning to Nigeria.

He joined the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation in 1955 and later moved into public service and business.

He served as public relations manager and later executive director at United African Company.

His public roles included membership of the Lagos City Council and appointments as managing director of Wemabod Estates Limited and chairman of the Nigerian National Shipping Line.

Ojora later invested in several companies, including AGIP Nigeria Limited, where he served as chairman until 2002.

He also founded Nigerlink Industries, Unital Builders and Lagos Investments.

He was a fellow of several professional bodies and received the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
