Ooni of Ife Adeyeye Ogunwusi has congratulated the acting Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu on his appointment.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Ile-Ife by the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s Palace Moses Olafare, the monarch urged IGP Disu to adopt a renewed approach to addressing insecurity across the country.
He said the appointment comes at a time when Nigeria faces security challenges and expressed confidence in Disu’s experience within the Nigeria Police Force.
He said, “Your appointment is timely, especially at a period when the nation is grappling with security challenges. You must champion a renewed and strategic approach to tackling insecurity across Nigeria.”
Ogunwusi called for a strategy based on intelligence-led policing, improved welfare for officers, community engagement and collaboration with other security agencies.
He said restoring public confidence in the police is key to achieving peace and stability.
“Restoring public confidence in the police remains critical to achieving peace and stability in our country,” he said.
The traditional ruler urged officers of the police force to support the acting I-G to strengthen ongoing reforms and reposition the institution.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for the appointment and reaffirmed the support of traditional rulers for lawful efforts to protect lives and property.
Ooni also appreciated former Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for his service and wished Disu well in office.
