The late Onyeka Onwenu’s last screen performance will be seen in the film To Adaego With Love, which is scheduled to open in Nigerian cinemas on February 6.

The romantic drama is set in 1975, a period when Nigeria was recovering from social divisions. It tells the story of a soldier and a schoolteacher from different ethnic backgrounds who fall in love.

Their relationship is shaped by societal expectations, tradition, family loyalties, and the broader challenges of a nation still finding its footing.

Producer and screenwriter Brenda Ogbukaa‑Garuba described the film as a story about “ordinary people choosing love at a time when Nigeria was still healing.” She said the film highlights themes of forgiveness, fragile hope and the quiet strength it takes to move forward in a broken world.”

The film stars Chisom Agoawuike and Adam Garba in the lead roles, with Chioma Akpotha, Bob Manuel, Riyo David, Demi Banwo, Tonia Chukwurah and Six Foot Plus in supporting roles.

Ogbukaa‑Garuba said the film honours Onwenu’s legacy. “This film is especially meaningful to us because it carries Onyeka Onwenu’s final performance. She brought truth, grace, and strength to every moment. To Adaego With Love is our way of honouring her legacy and sharing a story we hope stays with audiences long after the cinema lights come up.”

To Adaego With Love was directed by Nwamaka Chikezie and executive produced by Tony B. Adesina. Tribe Nation Distribution will handle its theatrical release in Nigeria, while Trino Motion Pictures is the official sales representative for international markets.

Onyeka Onwenu, known as a singer, songwriter, journalist and actor, died on July 30, 2024, after collapsing shortly after a live performance at a private event in Lagos.
