Ondo State Government has entered into a partnership with telecommunications company Globacom to deploy digital solutions across governance, education, security and revenue collection.
Globacom’s Group Lead, Enterprise Business, Adeniyi Odejobi, disclosed this on Wednesday during a meeting with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and top government officials in Akure.
Mr Odejobi said the company would work with the state to introduce a Learning Management System (LMS) for secondary and tertiary students.
He explained that Globacom would also provide its Glo Share-sponsored data service to give students zero-rated access to the LMS.
He added that the service would be extended to Ondo’s digital payment platform to ease revenue collection.
“This means citizens will be able to pay their taxes whilst using free data in Ondo State,” he said.
Other solutions include Glo Surveillance with facial biometrics and traffic management technologies, vehicle-tracking services for government cars and closed-user group lines for public servants to improve inter-agency communication.
In his remarks, Governor Aiyedatiwa confirmed the state government’s readiness to adopt the solutions.
He said the partnership would strengthen governance processes in the state.
The governor highlighted the launch of iOndo, an electronic tax collection platform, as part of efforts to embrace technology.
“Adopting new technologies from Globacom will reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, increase efficiency, and limit human interference in government processes,” he said.
Aiyedatiwa also acknowledged Globacom’s past role in the telecommunications sector, including the introduction of per-second billing and affordable SIM cards.
