Filmmaker Omotola Jalade Ekeinde’s directorial debut, Mother’s Love, was screened at the 34th Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) in Los Angeles, California.
The film has been showing at international festivals as part of its rollout ahead of its release in Nigeria. It was previously featured at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and the Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF). Mother’s Love is scheduled to open in Nigerian cinemas on March 6, with a premiere set for March 1.
PAFF is one of the longest-running events celebrating African and diaspora cinema. At this year’s edition, Mother’s Love reached a wider audience of film lovers and industry professionals.
Among those at the Los Angeles screening were actor Jimmy Jean-Louis, Ose Oyamedan of Nollywood in Hollywood, Ashkan Tabitha of 90210 Network and Dami Kujembola of Amplify Africa. Omotola attended with her sons, Matthew and Michael Ekeinde.
Mother’s Love tells the story of a young woman raised in privilege who, during her National Youth Service Corps year, leaves her familiar world and faces challenges that change her sense of self and direction.
The cast includes Omotola herself, Ifeanyi Kalu, Noray Nehita, Lilian Afegbai, Nosa Rex and Olumide Oworu.
