Filmmaker Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde’s daughters have taken to dancing in cinemas to promote her newly released film Mother’s Love.
A video shared on Instagram on Tuesday showed the moment her daughters, Princess Ekeinde and Meraiah Ekeinde, and others danced inside a cinema while encouraging moviegoers to watch the film.
Omotola had earlier criticised the growing trend of actors dancing on social media as a way of promoting films.
Speaking during an interview on TVC Entertainment in February ahead of the film’s release, she said actors should not be expected to dance to sell movies.
“I’m sorry, but I won’t be dancing to market or promote my movie. It’s not professional. I’ve done the movie, now I just have to go around and promote it,” she said.
Omotola explained that while she enjoys dancing, it should be done for fun and not as a compulsory marketing strategy for films.
Mother’s Love is Omotola’s directorial debut and opened in Nigerian cinemas on March 6 after premiering earlier in Lagos on March 1.
The family drama explores the relationship between a mother and daughter and features actors such as Ifeanyi Kalu, Noray Nehita, Lilian Afegbai, Nosa Rex and Olumide Oworu.
Before its cinema release, the film was screened at international festivals including the Toronto International Film Festival and the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles.
The film has recorded a modest start at the box office, grossing about N25 million since its release in cinemas.
