Olu of Warri Ogiame Atuwatse III and his wife Olori Ivie Atuwatse III met King Charles III at St James’s Palace after the 2026 Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration in London.
The meeting took place on Monday after the service held at Westminster Abbey.
Leaders and representatives from the 56 member states of the Commonwealth attended the event.
Queen Camilla and Commonwealth secretary-general Shirley Botchwey were also present.
Ogiame Atuwatse III said in a post on Instagram that his invitation came from Botchwey after her visit to the Warri Kingdom.
He said Commonwealth Day is observed each year to bring together representatives of member states to mark the community and renew commitment to cooperation and development.
After the service, King Charles III hosted guests at a reception at St James’s Palace.
The Olu and Olori attended the reception where they met the monarch.
A video shared on the Olu’s Instagram page showed the moment they were received by the king.
Ogiame Atuwatse III became the 21st Olu of Warri in August 2021.
Before his accession, he worked in the legal and energy sectors. He studied international studies and political science and later earned a Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University.
Olori Atuwatse III studied law at the London School of Economics and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2010.
She has been involved in programmes in the Warri Kingdom, including the Wuwu Ore medical outreach and the Royal Iwere Foundation, which focus on maternal health, child literacy and STEM education in the Niger Delta.
