Okorocha raises governing councils for new tertiary institutions

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha has set up governing councils for three new tertiary institutions in the state.

In a statement on Friday by the governor’s spokesman, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha urged the members of the councils to ensure smooth operations of the varsities.

Prof. Peter Akanwa was named Vice-Chancellor of Imo State University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, while Fr. Wenceslaus Madu is the council’s chairman.

Other members are: Permanent Secretaries for the Ministries of Finance, Agriculture and Tertiary Education and Sylvester Obinna, Jerry Okoli, Eze Emmanuel Ibechi and Eze Obiefule.

Okorocha named Prof. Aloysius Onyeka as rector of Bishop Shanahan Polytechnic Orlu while Dr Uche Ejiogu will serve as its council chairman.

Also appointed as members of the council are the Permanent Secretaries for the Ministries of Finance, Agriculture and Tertiary Education.

The spokesman said Okorocha appointed representatives of the three zones in the state – Chinyere Uwandu for Owerri, Emma Nwosu for Okigwe and Festus Aniwagu for Orlu – into the councils.

Dr Kingsley Ekechukwu was named rector for Imo State Polytechnic, Ehime Mbano, while Innocent Eke will serve as council chairman.

Other council members include Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries of Finance, Agriculture and Tertiary Education: Ego Ibeh, Joy Mbawuike and Ozo as representatives of Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu zones in the committee.

Onwuemeodo also said Imo State Polytechnic formerly at Umuagwo in Ohaji Egbema had been relocated to Ehime Mbano.

He said the Imo State Polytechnic campus at Orlu had been christened Bishop Shanahan Polytechnic, Orlu with a campus at the site of Mbonu Ojike Polytechnic in Arondizuogu.
