Ogun State public education officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Chief Route Commander Florence Okpe is dead.
Mrs Okpe, who had been ill for some time, died on Tuesday while on her annual leave in her hometown in Cross River State.
Her death was confirmed by the Ogun State sector commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, in a statement and in a conversation with journalists.
Mr Fasakin said, “The command received with heavy heart the sad news of the demise of CRC FN Okpe from one of her family members. She reportedly died on 28 October 2025 in her hometown while still on annual leave.”
He explained that Okpe had been receiving medical attention in Ogun State before being granted leave to continue treatment in her hometown.
“The command commiserates with her family and loved ones and prays that the Almighty God will grant all of us the strength to bear the loss,” he added.
Florence Okpe, an indigene of Cross River State, joined the FRSC in 1997 as a senior road marshal and in 2007 converted into the officer cadre.
She served in various commands, including Benin Zonal, Lagos and Bayelsa Commands, before her posting to Ogun State.
She held a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture extension and management and a Master’s degree in transport management from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, Oyo State.
Okpe was promoted to the rank of chief route commander in February 2023 and had been responsible for public outreach, safety campaigns and media communication for the FRSC in Ogun State until her death.
Details of her burial are yet to be announced.
