Actor Odunlade Adekola has fired back at a fan who criticized the use of charms and incantations in his latest Yoruba epic, Warlord (Olori Ogun).
The fan, identified as Prof Michael, praised the film for highlighting pre-colonial Yoruba warlords but disapproved of its supernatural elements.
He wrote that he enjoys the new development of telling stories about warlords, which shows there was history before colonialism. But he dislikes the constant use of charm and incantation, asking: “Can’t warlords fight neutrally without being diabolical? Yoruba industry should work on that.”
Odunlade’s response was sharp and humorous. He replied, “We will use bible verses next time.”
The reply quickly went viral, with many fans defending the actor, arguing that charms and incantations are integral to Yoruba culture and historical storytelling.
Warlord, which explores pre-colonial battles and Yoruba heritage, officially premiered and hit cinemas across Nigeria on 28 November 2025. The star-studded cast includes Odunlade Adekola in the lead role, alongside Toyin Abraham, Eniola Ajao, Muyiwa Ademola, Femi Adebayo, Biola Adebayo, Ibrahim Chatta, Fathia Williams Balogun, Hafiz Oyetoro and Ireti Osayemi.
