Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has congratulated former deputy president of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, on the occasion of his 62nd birthday, describing him as a distinguished Deltan and a committed public servant.
In a statement issued by his chief press secretary, Festus Ahon, on Sunday in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori extended warm wishes to Omo-Agege and praised his accomplishments in lawmaking and national development.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I congratulate my brother and former Deputy President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, as he turns 62 today,” the governor said.
“Senator Omo-Agege’s commitment to public service and his contributions to national development, particularly in the area of lawmaking and representation, are commendable. As a lawyer, legislator, and politician, he has demonstrated resilience, courage, and dedication in the discharge of his duties.”
Oborevwori prayed for continued good health, wisdom and divine guidance for the celebrant, wishing him many more years of service to the state and country.
Omo-Agege, who hails from Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, is a prominent figure in Nigerian politics.
A lawyer by profession, he served as secretary to the state government under former Governor James Ibori and later emerged as senator representing Delta Central in the National Assembly.
He rose to become deputy Senate President in 2019 and was the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Delta State in the 2023 elections.
Despite losing the election to Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Omo-Agege remains a major voice in Delta and national politics.
Known for sponsoring several bills and motions during his time in the Senate, including the sexual harassment in Tertiary Institutions Prohibition Bill, Omo-Agege is also recognised for his influence within the APC and his advocacy for constitutional reforms.
