A former aide of ex-Anambra State governor Willie Obiano has dismissed circulating reports claiming that the former governor had died.
His former Commissioner for Information, Don Adinuba, said on Friday that he spoke with Mr Obiano and confirmed that the former governor resides in the United States, not the United Kingdom as some online reports suggested.
“Obiano has never lived in the United Kingdom. He lives in the United States of America. I just spoke with him now,” Mr Adinuba said.
He urged the public to disregard the claims, noting that such reports could cause distress to Obiano’s family, associates and the people of Anambra State.
In a separate clarification, Adinuba restated that the former governor was in Houston.
He said he also spoke with members of Obiano’s family.
“Contrary to the reports, Obiano is not in London and has not been hospitalised. He is strong, hale, and hearty, and bouncing in the US. Ignore the rumour—it is not from a credible source. Please, the report is fake; Obiano is still alive,” he said.
Obiano’s personal publicist, Tony Nezianya, also said he had no information confirming the rumours.
Willie Obiano served as governor of Anambra State from 2014 to 2022.
He succeeded Peter Obi and handed over to the current governor, Charles Soludo, in March 2022.
He was born on August 8, 1955 and is from Aguleri in the Anambra East Local Government Area.
He is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over an alleged N4 billion fraud.
