Businessman Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has publicly hailed his biological son, Alex Iyiegbu, as his “next of kin” following a lighthearted but controversial video featuring his adopted son, Chidi Iyiegbu.

A recent video of Chidi, who is reportedly adopted, went viral on social media.

In the clip, the young boy strutted proudly with a caption that read, “Nothing do my shoulder, I just realise sey I be next of kin.”

The tone of the video suggested it was made in jest, possibly as part of the fanfare surrounding Obi Cubana’s lavish 50th birthday celebration.

The video sparked mixed reactions, with many netizens interpreting it as harmless fun.

However, during the birthday festivities, Alex was also seen dancing energetically, which led some social media users to playfully refer to him as the true “next of kin.”

Now in what appears to be a subtle response to the viral clip, Obi Cubana posted a photo of himself and Alex on Instagram with the caption:
“Ancient and Modern, eyes 👀 on the ball! @dtwalx aka Next-of-kin!🤣🥰

The post stirred up online reactions, with some seeing it as an unnecessary debunking of Chidi’s playful claim.

One user commented, “Na so brotherhood hatred dey start. There’s no point debunking.”

Another added, “This is really petty.”

Someone else wrote, “I wonder how the other child would feel now. It’s obvious he was just catching cruise on TikTok and it’s a new trend.”

Another user echoed similar sentiments: “How will that child feel now? There was a post where you called them next of kin, that was enough.”

A particularly pointed comment read, “I’m very sure this was the idea of Obi Cubana’s wife, because no Igbo woman would sit and watch a non-biological son become the next of kin over her own legitimate son.

“Even if she’s quiet, her friends will pressure her. I’m 100% sure Obi Cubana didn’t post this himself but he approved it for peace to reign.”

Someone else questioned the outrage: “The boy said he is the next of kin while vibing on TikTok. Did he call Obi’s name as the father?

“Or doesn’t he have a father too? So where is the debunking and these unnecessary shenanigans coming from?”
