President Bola Tinubu has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their thrilling 2–1 semi-final victory over South Africa at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The win, described as “nothing short of superlative,” showcased the Falcons’ resilience and talent.
In a statement issued shortly after the match on Tuesday, the president commended the team’s remarkable display and urged them to stay focused as they pursue a historic 10th WAFCON title.
“Well deserved! Congratulations to our Super Falcons! Your incredible #WAFCON2024 semi‑finals victory over South Africa today was nothing short of superlative,” Tinubu said.
“You have made the nation proud. Keep soaring. Don’t stop until you bring the trophy home. Go for our 10th title.”
Tinubu emphasised that Nigerians around the world are united in support as the Falcons prepare to take on either Morocco or Ghana in Saturday’s final.
He added, “We are waiting to receive the cup.”
Nigeria’s Super Falcons are known to be the most successful women’s team in African football history, having won the WAFCON an unprecedented nine times out of the last 12 editions olympics.
Their last title came in 2018.
They missed out in 2022, losing in the semi-finals to Morocco.
This year’s final will be their chance to reclaim continental dominance.
Nigerian fans worldwide are rallying behind the team, with many celebrating the Falcons win.
