Gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has received commendation from the organisers of The Experience as the annual worship concert begins on Friday night at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos.
During a press conference held with the ministers earlier on Friday, the moderator described her as a unique force in indigenous praise worship.
“Some may call her an indigenous praise worship leader out of Nigeria. We really respect her because in Nigeria when it comes to Oriki. And oriki is a title for a specified, a very very strong level of praise. Let me put it this way, there’s food you shouldn’t eat with your shoes on. And there are praise that you give that you can’t hear and still be sat, that’s the kind of praise she serves. Adeyinka Alaseyori. Nobody sits when she starts to praise God,” he said.
The Experience, which marks its 20th edition this year, is themed “Jesus United”. The concert, founded in 2006, has grown from a crowd of about 70,000 to attracting hundreds of thousands of worshippers on site and millions more online.
This year’s edition will feature both Nigerian and international gospel artistes. International ministers expected are Israel Houghton, Travis Greene, Naomi Raine, Chandler Moore and Chevelle Franklyn.
Nigerian artistes on the lineup include Yinka Alaseyori, Sinach, Mercy Chinwo, Moses Bliss, Dunsin Oyekan, Frank Edwards, Onos Ariyo, Bidemi Olaoba, Mike Aremu, Beejay Sax, and the Lagos Metropolitan Gospel Choir (LMGC).
Also among those present at the press briefing were Moses Bliss and Gaise Baba, the latter performing at The Experience for the first time alongside Tolu Odukoya.
The all-night event begins by 7pm and remains free to attend, continuing its tradition as one of Africa’s largest gospel gatherings.
