Media mogul and former presidential aspirant Dele Momodu has fired back at Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over remarks the former Rivers governor made about him.
Wike had referred to Momodu as “that boy” during a recent media chat in Abuja, saying:
“There is this boy, they say he is a journalist. What’s his name? He is big.”
When told it was Dele Momodu, he responded, “Okay. I don’t remember all these names. He was never my friend. He ran for president, but he didn’t get one vote.”
In response, Momodu shared a strongly worded post on Instagram on Thursday, criticising Wike’s personality and lifestyle.
“I can confirm that too much alcohol can do two things – dull the brain and get people emaciated,” he wrote.
Reacting to Wike’s dig at his failed presidential bid, the Ovation publisher said:
“On elections, there’s no difference between the man who wasted billions on seeking power and still lost and the one who spent nothing and got nothing. They are both losers.”
Momodu also stated that although both of them may have lost elections, there is a clear difference in character.
“The difference here is one is an uncouth and uncultured local champion called ‘money miss road’, while the other is a decorous and refined global citizen surviving on contentment,” he said.
According to the journalist, efforts were made in the past to assist Wike, but those efforts failed.
“We thought we could be of help, but we failed because some souls are irredeemable,” he wrote.
Momodu ended his post with a statement that has since gone viral:
“Lesson: NO ONE HAS A MONOPOLY OF MADNESS.”
Dele Momodu, 64, is the publisher of Ovation International and a prominent figure in Nigerian media and politics. He contested the 2023 presidential election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the same party as Wike.
Wike, who served as governor of Rivers State from 2015 to 2023, was appointed FCT Minister by President Bola Tinubu in 2023 after playing a controversial role in the PDP presidential primary and later supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the election.
