Grammy-nominated singer Davido has condemned the rising violence in Nigeria following a church attack in Kwara State and the mass kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi.
On Tuesday, armed men stormed a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Oke Isegun, Eruku, killing three worshippers and abducting several others. The attack came a day after 25 students were kidnapped from the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga in Kebbi State.
Taking to X on Wednesday, Davido wrote: “My heart goes out to the young girls kidnapped in Kebbi State and to their families. No family deserves this pain. As Nigerians, we must stand together in unity and continue working towards a country where every child can grow up in safety and hope.”
He described the Kwara church attack as “tragic” and added: “These acts of violence must never become our norm. Everything must be done to bring the Kebbi girls home safely. I urge anyone with credible information to come forward in whatever safe and responsible way they can. May God watch over the girls until they return. May He comfort the grieving families in Kwara, bring peace to our nation, and put every sponsor of violence and disorder to shame.”
Davido joins a growing chorus of celebrities speaking out. Rapper Falz urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to act decisively, while actress Funke Akindele expressed shock at the viral video of the Kwara attack.
Actress Bukola Arugba revealed three of her relatives were among those abducted.
