Former Lagos governorship candidate Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has said there is no Christian genocide in Nigeria.
Jandor stated this on Thursday during the inauguration of his grassroots political structure for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos in 2027 at Eko FM, Lagos.
He said those pushing the genocide narrative were trying to give the country and its government a bad name.
“There is nothing like genocide of Christians in Nigeria,” he said.
“Nigeria is a secular state. President Tinubu is a Muslim, married to a pastor. I am a Muslim, my wife is a Christian, and my late mother was a Christian. My siblings are both Christians and Muslims. The same terrorists have killed people in Zamfara, a Muslim state, including in mosques. Insecurity is a problem for all of us.”
Jandor added that insecurity was not based on religion but a national challenge.
He cited violence in the South-East, saying the killings there were not caused by Muslims.
He said, “If President Trump wants to assist us in fighting terrorists, we welcome it, but not with the narrative of Muslims killing Christians or vice versa. That is not who we are.”
Jandor also said he had earlier advised security chiefs to improve their performance, warning that President Tinubu was not like his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, who retained officials for long periods.
His comment comes amid renewed diplomatic tension between Nigeria and the United States, which recently redesignated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” under President Donald Trump’s administration, citing alleged violence against Christians.
