NLNG completes second phase of school renovation project

Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) on Tuesday handed over Community Primary School, Lighthouse Area, Finima, Bonny, to the Rivers State Ministry of Education.

The handover marked the completion of the second phase of NLNG’s School Renovation Project.

The project was initiated to upgrade learning environments and support education in NLNG host communities.

It was implemented in collaboration with the Rivers State Ministry of Education and aligned with NLNG’s corporate social responsibility principles, which focus on sustainability, partnership and shared value.

Under the second phase, five schools across different local government areas received renovation and construction work.

These schools are Community Secondary School Abalamabie in Bonny, Community Secondary School Amadi-Ama in Port Harcourt, Community Secondary School Abarikpo in Ahoada East, Model Boys Secondary School Omoku in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni and Community Primary School Lighthouse Area, Finima, Bonny.

The scope of work included refurbishing three existing classroom blocks, constructing two new blocks, a new block of toilets, a perimeter fence and gates, a gatehouse, external landscaping, an overhead water tank with a 7.2-metre gantry, water reticulation systems and electrical power tie-in.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, NLNG general manager of external relations and sustainable development, Sophia Horsfall said the project reflects NLNG’s commitment to improving education in host communities.

She stated that the completion of the second phase demonstrates the company’s consistency in advancing education and inclusive growth in the state.

The permanent secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Education, Azibaolanari Uzoma-Nwogu, represented by Alua Adiela, director of secondary education, commended NLNG for its interventions in education, noting that partnerships between government and private organizations can enhance public education.

Since the inception of the School Renovation Project, NLNG has commissioned and handed over nine schools to the Rivers State Ministry of Education.

On the sidelines of the handover, the newly upgraded Finima Sports Complex was also commissioned.

The project aims to support educational access, youth development through sports and community engagement.
