Nigeria’s Reputation is everyone’s responsibility – John Momoh

The chairman of Channels Television, John Momoh says the task of restoring Nigeria’s reputation is not that of government alone, but a collective responsibility of all citizens.

Momoh stated this on Thursday at the 2025 Nigeria Public Relations Week, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom,

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the week, organised by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), is themed “Harnessing Public Relations for Nigeria’s Economic Renaissance’’.

Speaking after his installation as chairman body of advisers, Nigeria Reputation Management Group (NRMG) of NIPR, Momoh said the nation’s reputation is a collective asset.

He called on all Nigerians to be collectively committed to propagating positive narratives of the country with enthusiasm and patriotism.

“Nations reputation is not built overnight; rather, it is forged over time with consistency, credibility, and character.

“As professionals in communication,  we must be a vanguard in an adventure where facts matter, content is not lost, and hope is not silenced.

“In this regard, I would like to make a sincere appeal to our fellow Nigerians, both at home and in the Diaspora, not to be disillusioned by the state of the nation,’’ he said.

Momoh added, “We understand your frustrations; they are real and valid, but let us remember that we cannot uplift our country by tearing it down with our words.

“Every negative post, careless comments, and harsh generalization, especially when amplified globally, further erodes the very image we are all helping to build.

“Let us speak with constructive courage; let us build and not break; let us share stories of innovation, resilience, creativity, and excellence that abound within our borders and among our people”.

Momoh urged Nigerians not only to use social media to express their opinion but also to promote truth, support national initiatives, and counter misinformation.

The Channels TV boss also underscored the need for those trusted with the responsibility to govern to lead by example.

According to him, when institutions function with fairness and competence, the citizens become the first ambassadors of their community.

He added that when leadership inspires trust, the people follow with pride, stressing, “The credibility of a nation is only as strong as the credibility of its leaders’’.

NAN reports that other executive members of the body of advisers are the comptroller general of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi as vice chairman, and Mohammed Abubakar as secretary.

NAN also reports that the group is tasked to build trust, inspire confidence and project a narrative anchor on truth, progress and prosperity for Nigeria.
