Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has said that while Nigerian men have style, they often fall short when it comes to romance.
In a chat on GRM Daily’s Thoughts in a Culli, the 45-year-old said, “Nigerian men do have swag but they are not really romantic when it comes down to it. They know how to swag and splash cash but I’m not looking for that.”
She acknowledged that Nigerian men can be generous, but noted that material things are not what she’s after in a relationship.
Tiwa was previously married to talent manager Tunji Balogun, popularly known as Tee Billz.
The couple had their traditional wedding in Lagos in November 2013, followed by a white wedding in Dubai in April 2014. They welcomed their son, Jamil, in 2015.
Their marriage began to unravel publicly in 2016 after Tee Billz accused her of infidelity.
Tiwa responded in a now-famous interview, denying the allegations and revealing she had endured emotional abuse and financial strain in the marriage. The pair eventually divorced.
Since then, Tiwa has remained largely private about her love life, though she has occasionally sparked rumours through her music and public appearances.
