Oreoluwa Odetunde, a first-year Master of Business Administration (MBA) student at the S.C. Johnson College of Business, Cornell University, died in her off-campus residence on Thursday, February 5.
Ms. Odetunde, an international student from Nigeria, earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Lagos in 2017.
She had built a career in investment research and strategy before pursuing her MBA.
She served as Head of Research at Anchoria Asset Management and previously worked as a Research Analyst at Greenwich Merchant Bank, where she focused on financial services and macroeconomic analysis.
She was a CFA Level 2 candidate.
At Cornell, Odetunde participated in several student organisations, including the Johnson African Business Society, the Black Graduate Business Association and the Old Ezra Finance Club.
She was also a Forté Fellow and Sage Scholar, contributing to research and strategy projects at multiple companies.
Odetunde had appeared on Arise News Business Week to discuss global business issues and the relocation of capital, highlighting her engagement in the broader financial sector.
Cornell University expressed condolences in a statement, saying, “We are devastated for Oreoluwa’s family, friends, classmates and instructors and extend our deepest condolences in this difficult time.”
The S.C. Johnson College of Business held a support meeting for its community at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, in the MBA Student Lounge in Sage Hall 301.
A follow-up meeting was scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 9, in the Edwards Room of Anabel Taylor Hall G14.
Oreoluwa Odetunde is survived by her family in Nigeria and colleagues at both Anchoria Asset Management and Greenwich Merchant Bank.
